Individualized academic coaching for adolescents and adults
Serving students in the Allentown/Bethlehem area and online
Specializing in undergraduate and graduate students
You may be familiar with coaching to improve performance in other contexts, such as athletics or career development. In academic coaching, the goal is to improve a student's academic performance by focusing on areas such as time management, planning, organization, maintaining focus, or getting started.
The student's goals, interests, and ideas are always central to our coaching process. We work with students to identify their personal educational goals, and break them into action steps for day-to-day academic activities. Given the student's past experiences, strengths and challenges, we consider strategies, environmental changes, and routines that will facilitate their goals and build their skills. We check in by email or text between sessions to allow the student to regularly reflect on progress. Finally, we use sessions to celebrate successes, learn from setbacks, make or revise goals, and keep moving forward.
While coaching will deal primarily with academic goals, it is impossible to completely separate academics from other parts of life. Coaching may also deal with how to maintain overall balance. For example, if we are working on academic time management and organization, we may also touch on job responsibilities, family obligations, daily life tasks, extracurricular activities, or down time.
